Video Transcoding Guidelines

We output up to two different versions, depending on input file resolution.

All videos will now stream by default with standard definition of 480p for all devices. Users will be able to toggle their resolution in the video player to HD with a resolution of 720p.

  • Resolutions above 720p will be downscaled to 720p
  • Resolutions above 480P and below 720p will be downscaled to 480p
  • Resolutions below 480P will be upscaled to 480P
  • Odd resolutions of 500p, 860p, 999i, etc. will be appropriately letterboxed or pillarboxed (see below)

All videos that exceed or equal the maximum resolution, of 720p, will have 2 versions rendered at 480p & 720p with a variable bitrates of 4 mbps or lower.
