GLOBALEDIT LINK - Overview, Best Practices, Troubleshooting

GLOBALEDIT LINK OVERVIEW

What is globaledit LINK?

globaledit LINK is an application for Mac and Windows that allows you to work natively, foregoing the need for a browser.

Why should I have globaledit LINK?

As of Dec 31, 2020, web browsers will no longer support Flash. This will permanently disable Flash from running on any browser.  However, we took the necessary measures to ensure this will not affect your work, by offering the globaledit LINK app. With globaledit LINK you will be able to use globaledit as you’re used to using it with no additional migration needed.  The only difference is, you use an app, instead of a browser.

GLOBALEDIT LINK SETUP

How do I install globaledit LINK?

You can download and install the application from globaledit here : globaledit.com/globaledit-link

We are also in the process of adding globaledit LINK in the Mac, and Windows App Stores. Your Account Manager will advise when you are able to download directly from there as well.

What do I need to do to install the application?

You may need Admin access to enable the application for your computer. If you are not the administrator of your computer, you may need your IT team to grant you access to launch this application.

If your IT team has further questions, please contact your globaledit Account Manager. We can connect with your IT team to help set up for the larger creative team.

For macOS when unpacking, please make sure to move the globaledit LINK app to your User Applications folder before launching.  You will not be able to launch directly from the DMG package.

We encourage installing globaledit LINK in your User Applications folder instead of your System Applications folder.

Does Aspera still work with globaledit LINK?

Yes -

Mac users: please utilize version 3.10.1 after you install LINK if you don’t already have Aspera installed, you can download Aspera from globaledit here: globaledit.com/globaledit-link

Windows users: please utilize version 3.9.9 after you install LINK.

You can download Aspera from globaledit here: globaledit.com/globaledit-link

For Aspera to work correctly, please make sure Aspera running before globaledit LINK is launched.
globaledit + Aspera will not work if Aspera is launched after globaledit LINK is already running.

How will users experience globaledit using globaledit LINK app?

Standard users (users with a login), will need to download and utilize globaledit LINK for all aspects of globaledit.

However, there are specific types of users where log in is not required.

Here’s a breakdown by user types.

  • User without login receives invite to a Lightbox - needs to view
    • Clicking the invite link (VIEW) will redirect to a mobil page on computer (this redirection is enacted once your team has moved over to LINK)
  • User without login receives invite to a Lightbox - needs to download
    • User will have to install globaledit LINK in order to download the images
    • Once globaledit LINK is installed.
      • Clicking the invite link (ACCESS AND DOWNLOAD) will redirect to globaledit LINK
      • This will only affect invites sent after your team has moved over to globaledit LINK.
        • Lightboxes created before LINK was installed will need to be revised post-LINK activation in order to accomodate LINK
  • User without login receives an Uplink - needs to upload
    • User will have to install globaledit LINK in order to upload the images
    • Once globaledit LINK is installed.
      • Clicking the invite link to upload will redirect to globaledit LINK
      • This will only affect invites sent after your team has moved over to globaledit LINK.
        • Uplinks created before LINK was installed will need to be revised post-LINK activation in order to accomodate LINK

I am receiving an error message in Aspera when I try to up/download (Error: authentication failed)

I am receiving an Flash error message upon opening LINK

Likely this error is due to ineffective files/folders as a result of Flash's deprecation on Jan 12th. Once this folder is removed (while logged out of LINK), LINK will recreate it the next time you open the app.

Here are the steps for addressing on a Mac computer (also detailed in THIS VIDEO):

  • Quit the LINK app
  • Delete the Folder ~ / Library / Application Support / globaleditLINK
  • Reopen the LINK app (the above files/folders will be recreated upon reopening LINK)

Alternately, HERE is a script for Mac that will enact the above process

Here are the steps for addressing on a Windows computer (also detailed in THIS VIDEO):

  • Quit the LINK app
  • Delete the pepflashplayer.dll file, located under:
    • C:/Users/<Username>/AppData/Roaming/globaleditLINK/pepflashplayer.dll
  • Reopen the LINK app (the above files/folders will be recreated upon reopening LINK)
  • If this has not solved, you may need to ensure that the Pepper Data folder has been recreated in this above folder structure.

Alternately, HERE is a script for Windows that will enact the above process
