Search Overview
Search allows you to locate assets within an account by filenames, metadata, and asset locations. You can employ multiple filters that help drill down to narrow your search results, as well as save search criteria to retain searches for future use.
Overview
- Essentially the method of search within globaledit is:
- Selecting location/areas of platform to search (workspace/library, collections)
- Creating chips that represent values to search against
- Hit enter to create chip after entering value
- Searching
- Hit enter to search entered chips
- Adding applicable search filters (sort/filter by rating, etc) to drill into your results
Chips
- Search chips are created any time you enter a value. These are essentially modular and can be employed together to focus your search as needed.
- These are utilized for every aspect of search (metadata, folder name, filename, etc.)
- Below is a list of how to interact with these chips, and shortcuts that can be utilized.
Metadata
- Full metadata search is available; you can search via any field in any schema
- Exact search is not needed
- You do not have to enter the specific field or schema you want to search - you can search all metadata concurrently
Search types available
- Text, range-based searches, boolean, and partial filename searches can be are available
- These options vary depending on the fields and values you are searching
Location
- As a starting point, you can choose to search within either Workspaces (the library), or Collections
- These are independent of one another
Search filters
- After your search you can deploy a filter (ratings, etc.) that can help slim your search results
Saved search
- Once you create a search, you have the option to save this search and call it back later. This is very helpful for complex searches that are utilized occasionally, as well as searches that are done on a regular basis.
Search Troubleshooting / Best Practices
-
Search breadth
- Search is essentially just searching assets
- You cannot search for the folder/collection and action this independent of the assets (eg. to find a collection and then send to someone)
- Future iterations of search will likely expand this usecase
- There is no “any” or “all” designation for search; “any” is the default
-
Chips
- The way to search for multiple assets concurrently is to make a chip for each asset, and then search all these chips together
- Once chips are created, you cannot modify them
-
Known issues
- There is no chip for versions at the moment.
- Search cannot be performed with a blank field
- Assumption: Should be able just search in an empty search bar
-
Other
- Checkbox metadata field
- Only way for it to be “unchecked” is if you check the checkbox and uncheck it
- Future iterations of search will likely expand this usecase
