Upload Versions
Right-click on selected asset(s), then Add > Versions from the dropdown menu:
Or Right-click on a Folder, then Add > Versions from the dropdown menu:
In the modal, drag or select files to upload, then click Add to upload:
Filename Matching
If you are batch uploading versions to multiple assets at once, asset and version filenames must match but can have different file extensions:
Existing GE asset Filename |
Incoming Version Filename |
17_Headphones_0052.jpg |
17_Headphones_0052.tif |
17_Headphones_0053.jpg |
17_Headphones_0053.tif |
17_Headphones_0054.jpg |
17_Headphones_0054.tif |
The notification bell at the top right of the screen will alert to an upload in progress. You can see granular upload details by selecting the Notification Bell, then View Details:
The status of the notification will change to Complete while the previews of versioned assets will update to the latest version.
Modifying & Managing Versions
Versioned assets have an icon at the top right of their placeholder/preview displaying the number of versions the asset has:
The version displayed while in Grid view is the latest version:
-
Inherits ratings, color tags, labels, and metadata of the previous version
-
Modifications to the latest version do not impact previous/earlier versions and vice versa
-
The latest version is downloaded when assets are selected for download in Grid view
-
All Versions, including latest, are deleted when you delete assets within Grid View
Viewing All Versions
Double-click on an asset to head into 1-Up View, or select the 1-Up View button at the top right of the screen. The version number is now available within the film strip at the bottom of the screen and at the top left of the screen in the Version Dropdown:
Clicking the version number in the film strip will open all versions. Clicking the Version dropdown at the top left of the screen will allow you to select previous versions to view:
You can quickly compare versions in 2-Up View by checking the box next to Compare In 2-Up > Compare in the Version Dropdown:
Downloading Versions
Only the latest version will be packaged for download. Double click on an asset to head into 1-Up view if you'd like to download an earlier version:
In the Version Dropdown at the top left of the screen, select Actions > Download next to the version you'd like to download:
You can also right-click on the earlier version in the film strip > Download from the dropdown menu.
If you need help configuring a download, learn more about Downloading Assets.
Make an Earlier Version Latest
You can replace the latest version with an earlier version by selecting Actions > Make Latest in the Version Dropdown.
You can also do this in the filmstrip by Right-clicking on an earlier version > Make latest from the dropdown menu.
This will duplicate the earlier version so you don't lose history, though the earlier duplicate can be deleted without impact to the new latest version.
Deleting Versions
You can delete an earlier version by selecting Actions > Delete in the Version Dropdown, or Right-clicking earlier versions within the film strip, then Delete from the menu.
Deleting the latest Version
If you want to delete the latest version, you must first make an earlier version latest before you're able to do so.
In the Version Dropdown, select Action next to an earlier version > Make Latest. This will duplicate the earlier version and set it as the Latest version. From here, select Action > Delete next to the version(s) you'd like to delete:
These actions can also be committed within the filmstrip by expanding all versions > Right-Clicking on an earlier version > Delete:
