Getting Started: globaledit Sync

Globaledit Sync is a FTP-style application which can be used in conjunction with globaledit to facilitate efficient handling of large scale uploads. Seamlessly upload while on set. Assets can be reviewed globally in real time! Upload larger batches of assets without browser limitations. Recreate a folder structure in globaledit automatically. Designate a local hot folder to and transfer assets to globaledit in real time. Automatically upload additional assets without a separate upload. Run multiple syncs simultaneously to separate destinations in globaledit.

Upload Walkthrough

  1. Download the globaledit Sync app here

    • Mac OS

    • Windows

       

      Install the application, open and sign in.
      You will have access to the same library structure you have in globaledit.

  2. Create a New Sync.

  3. Name your Sync (this is for internal use only, it will not be used within globaledit) Screen_Shot_2022-09-27_at_10.41.44_AM.png

  4. Click Asset Source to select the asset folder that your assets will be uploaded from.

  5. If adding attachments, select the Attachment Source folder. (Attachments must have the same filename and folder structure when uploading)

  6. Under Destination, browse to select an Account, then browse to select a workspace or create a new workspace by choosing the + symbol, then select a folder in the workspace or create a new folder in the workspace by choosing the + symbol, choose Select to select as destination to upload into. 

  7. Click Save to start the sync and begin your upload!

Progress & Sync Completion

While the upload is in progress, it will go through two upload steps, please keep Sync open until the progress bar shows: Sync Complete: Go to Folder. 
 
When the upload is in progress, you can pause the upload by selecting the Blue Pause button on the left.
 
Once the upload is complete, you can click the Go to Folder link to be directed to the folder within your workspace.
 

Hot Folder

Once the upload is complete, the sync will show a Green check mark on the left, this indicates that the folder currently chosen is a hot folder and any assets added to the folder will be automatically uploaded to the chosen workspace folder. 
 
By selecting the Green check mark Icon on the left, it will close the hot folder and turn the button Gray with a Pause icon. To return this sync to a hot folder status, simply select the Gray Pause Icon to reset the status to a Green Check Mark Icon. 
 

Activity Panel

Within the Activity Panel, you will be able to see up to 7 days of activity. To see more activity, please export a CSV Report. 
 
The activity shown includes status - whether uploaded or not upload, the filename, filetype, the globaledit workspace and folder destination, Via Sync - the internal Sync name given at time of upload, the timestamp of upload, and the file size. 
 
By selecting the 3 dot menu on the file, you will be able to show the File info, or view the asset or view the folder within the workspace. 
 

Settings Panel

With the settings panel, you are able to customize many settings based on your upload needs. 
 
Schedule Sync allows you to “Always” have the ability to start a sync or choose a specific timeframe to upload via Sync.
 
Rules allow you to either “Start Upload Automatically” or not and to “Ignore Duplicate Files” within the upload folder or not. Please note - Sync will not Ignore duplicate files already within your globaledit Organization. 
 
Customize Notifications for All Activity and Warnings for either never or every X amount of minutes or hours. 
 
Choose to Ignore specific filetypes to upload if you have many different types of filetypes within your upload folder. Ignore for either the Asset, Attachment or both. 

 

Features

  • Account specific direction

    • Sync is directed to point to specific accounts or workspaces depending on account permissions.  

  • Customization of File Import

    • The ability to choose file types you would like to include or exclude from import per Sync.  
    • This enables you to export multiple file types to a hot folder and then just pick what you don’t want to import.

  • CSV Activity Export

    • Export a report of the specific details regarding this Sync for metrics review, data & workflow management, and troubleshooting.

  • Sync Scheduling

    • Set scheduling for syncs depending on your schedule, either continuous or within dictated timeframes.

  • Sync Activity Notification

    • Preferences for how often the Sync creator receives progress email notifications can be set to either NEVER, or on a continuous basis, based on hours/minutes

  • Auto update new releases

    • Beginning with version 2.0, Sync will prompt an update for new iterations of the tool with each login

  • Version verification

    • Check which version you are using in “About globaledit Sync”

  • Attachment Upload

    • Include attachments to your upload alongside the source asset. 

 

Ratings and Color Tags

  • Star ratings and color tags made in external programs such as Capture 1, PhotoShop, Lightroom and Bridge will be retained upon upload.  
    • Be sure to check the Rating and Color Tag metadata checkbox in your Capture 1 process recipe to retain these ratings within globaledit.

    • Color ratings in Adobe platforms such as Bridge or Lightroom have text associated with certain colors, i.e. Green means Approve.  If you do not wish to retain these ratings in globaledit, please remove the color labels prior to upload.  For information on removing the ratings after upload, please visit the Removing Label Ratings After Import page
